Instructions:

Serving others is a fantastic way to teach children about being a part of their community. I've thought of a few activities that might be available in your area.

1. Cleanup trash from a local park.
2. Wash windows for an elderly couple.
3. Rake leaves for the neighbor.
4. Shovel snow from someone's driveway (if you get snow :)
5. Cook dinner for a family who has an ill parent.
6. Make cookies and give them away.

Sometimes it might be hard to find someone who needs help, but if you keep an eye out for them, you'll find them. You might even look in the paper - sometimes I've seen ads from people who need someone to mow their lawn, plant flowers, etc.

It adds to the fun if you do it as a surprise as well. When the neighbors are off shopping you can rake up all the leaves in their yard. Maybe you could make a batch of cookies and then leave them in your neighbors car (make sure its a car they use everyday though :)

Did you Try It?
